According to the reading of “Watching Television Without Pity: The Productivity of Online Fans”, it is about the participation between TV producers and the online fans, how do the TV producers make their work much more better after the fans responses. And it proves that TWoP become the main platform which keep the connection between fans and producers. Moreover these participatory responses make people watch more TV than before; which means new media form is started to challenge the passive form of media where viewers activity require rethinking strategy towards the TV shows.

After the fans have watched the TV shows, they will start recapping the photos and even explain the content inside the TWop forum. Therefore the author believes that TWop forum is a foundation for a movement which driven the viewers to watch more TV. Besides, fans do not only recap photos, they even take notes in front of the television when they are not online. By giving votes, explanations, and also errors that have been made inside the TV drama, TV producers are able to make improvement to their works, while the fans who have analyzed would be free labor helping on this digital world.

I do agree with the argument which TWop helps to driven the viewers on watching more TV, as the fans have played an important role to explain to the one who don’t really understand the series or even make other audience to gain more interest towards the drama because of their participation in forums. Furthermore, TWop helps to understand fans’ taste where the TV producers could know which characters they are favorable of and the one who are unpopular. Besides, fans’ feedbacks could make changes on lighting, costumes, and even the ending of the series. Those fans have become the assistants who help the producers and writers to make better work, not only making good story but also with the improvement on technical aspects.

Although fans help audience to make easy understanding on the message of the dramas, while they are unpaid. This kind of participatory reduces cost, where fans are enjoyed and willing to do this unpaid work but exploitation appears in this situation. Unfortunately, the TWop has been closed for certain reasons, but we couldn’t ignore the power of fans that really make meaningful responses. There are many participatory platforms in China too, such as “bilili”, where people could make immediate comments while they are watching the TV drama. And  I certainly hope that people could heard more other voices no matter male or female, because voices are important for us to improve and make things better.
